Tip #8: Abscess!

This Nov. 8, 2011 photograph provided by the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine shows a horse with “pigeon fever,” a bacterial infection named for the “pigeon-breasted” appearance given by large abscesses on the chest, at LSU Veterinary Hospital in Baton Rouge, La. Experts say last year’s drought has expanded the reach of the bacterial ailment. It has long been common in California, and has been reported in the past decade at least in Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Oregon, Idaho, New Mexico, Montana, Kentucky and Oklahoma. It’s usually not fatal but can be an expensive annoyance. (AP Photo/ Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, Rebecca McConnico)

Whenever ABSCESS is a concern there are two HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES that are specifically for an abscess condition:

HEPAR SULPH:  to burst the abscess

SILICEA: to resolve the abscess

Both are staple in my own emergency kit and used regularly for clients’ horses who are developing abscesses of the hoof. Expulsion of the abscess and its subsequent resolution have always been rapid.

I’ve also used the remedies successfully with very stubborn recurring abscesses in dogs, cats and horses for abscesses of various sorts. I pray you or I never have to deal with Pigeon Fever but if it takes hold, keep these two remedies in mind.

Check with your Homeopathic Veterinarian for more information on these two remedies and, as always, if you suspect an illness in your horse or an injury arises consult your regular veterinarian.  Homeopathics can be used WITH conventional treatment safely without fear of adverse reactions.
