“Doing” Natural …

In the book, “Horse As Teacher” from horseconciousness.info, there is a paragraph in the first section that reads —

I believe we can achieve deep levels of self by simply “being.” It is our doing nature that puts us into our heads, fills us with agendas, and removes us from feeling from the heart. When we choose to “be,” we choose to breathe, feel, observe, and accept the moment as it is, and as we connect with another. There is no time for judgment or analysis. Authenticity comes from the heart, not the busy mind that is rationalizing, manipulating, positioning, planning, thinking, worrying, and justifying.

By “doing natural” we are thinking and existing in our left brain hemisphere. (Read my prior post on “Left vs Right Brain Connections between Horse and Human”)

In doing so we loose connections with the horse. The horse becomes an ‘object of utility’ in our left brain rather than a ‘partner’ in our right brain. Horses are right hemisphere thinkers with no agendas. They simply exist to ‘be’.

When we discipline ourselves to switch from left brain to right brain thinking we then can start to experience our be-ing.  In those moments of ‘be-ing’, connected with another ‘be-ing’ we can than transverse the lines of species and become true unified partners; blended heart-to-heart.

It is then that we stop ‘doing natural’ and start ‘be-ing’ natural.

It is then that we can develop a true partnership with the horse.

Be-ing to be-ing.

Penzance’s motto: “It’s all about your heart and how you use it.” is applied to any aspect of horsemanship as the horses can only read our hearts.
