Question:
Hi Gwen. My horse has been colicky off and on. I don’t know what to do to help. There seems to be no trigger. He’s in a very nice barn with his own stall and attached small run out. I ride him every day for an hour and give him one day off a week. He eats {deletia} pellets, gets {deletia} vitamin supplement every day and 2 flakes of hay in the morning and 2 at night. He’s vaccinated regularly and is dewormed on a rotational schedule. I try to do everything to keep my horse healthy. What could be wrong? Thanks for any thoughts. –Cheryl, ME
Answer:
Hi Cheryl! How frustrated you must be. I know how hard you must work to help keep your horse happy and healthy. I would refer you to my webpage, www.thepenzancehorse.com in the ARTICLES section to read some more about Diet and Nutrition … I think a change to his diet might be affective for him. But, in keeping in the “whole horse” thought here I just recently ran across this article that I think might also be contributory. Of course, I assume you’ve talked all this over with your vet. Please be sure to consult with him/her if you haven’t already. But do read this and take it into consideration:
LONELINESS and DIGESTIVE DISORDERS
Every little bit that we do for our horses can help.
The best of luck to you!
