Can’t wait til Spring! Can’t wait til the temps get into the 70’s … so much to do. So many things I want to work on with the horses and ponies! Right now its snowing again – on top of ice. Walking out this morning just to feed hay was life-threatening! (No, I didn’t get my yak trax this year!) … even the kitties are sliding on the ice under the snow! But, the horses seem to take it all in stride. They know where its ‘safe’ to walk and where it isn’t.
I did pick up some new hula-hoops yesterday and will be starting with those for our ‘agility’ training (I used to call it extreme trail training!) The bridge is still buried under snow down back so that’s out for a bit. And a tarp on top of the snow on top of the ice? Mmmmmm, no. Don’t think so. So, the hula hoops will have to suffice for now with the usual others — umbrella, tambourine, pom-poms, pool noodles — all great clicker training props! Everyone knows how to target — even the goat! “Noodles” is a pure-bred Alpine goat who is now 12 years old. She LOVES her clicker training games! Just a quick minded as the horses but in a different way – the ‘goat’ way! *grin*
I’m looking forward to working with new horses and new clients this spring. Always so much fun to watch a horse who has never been exposed to Clicker Training be introduced to it! They catch on soooooooo quickly and its so much fun for them. (and me, too!) There are so many things that can be taught with CT — from the ground all the way to the upper level disciplines of riding!
I feel badly that there are so many ill-conceived misunderstandings about Clicker Training horses … I’m so ready to begin breaking those notions again!
We’ll be having some workshops here this season on PENZANCE plus a few are arranged on other farms. I’ll have the calendar posted at www.thepenzancehorse.com so keep your eyes open!
If anyone is nearby in MA, RI, NE Conn and wants to start teaching your horse using Clicker Training (and Partnership Training), just give me a holler. caballus@charter.net or 508-476-1317. 🙂 My schedule’s not quite full yet … but it will be soon, so get in touch w/me soon! We can start right away — don’t have to wait for the snow to melt …
