Adding “Natural” into your Horse’s Diet

IMGA0101The ingredients in the bucket don’t LOOK like the traditional feed for a horse … you know, that pelleted concentrated grains or the sweet feed.

It’s not.

In the bucket you see raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. All forages – all what an equine is best designed to digest easily. All ingredients from which the horse can obtain his natural nutrients.

Horsey Salad!

Can be given in lieu of ‘traditional’ grains and feeds or can be added to the diet on a regular basis.

Fresh, vine-ripened vegetables not only offer vitamins and minerals that are needed by the horse but also the 8 essential glyconutrients that are essential to cell health. These glyconutrients can only be found in vine-ripened fruits and vegetables.

Try adding a salad to your horse’s meals once a day or a couple times a week.

A BASIC ‘recipe’ is as follows:

1 Apple, 1 carrot, 1 yam, 1 orange, 1/2 avocado, 1 banana, handful of sprouts, handful of spring greens. You can add different fruits if you like – watermelon, pears, peaches (remove pit), papaya, mango, — rinds and all. Walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts, squashes, pumpkin seeds (definitely!), sunflower seeds, be creative.

No tomatoes, potatoes or eggplant, though!

Sprinkle 1/4 cup of Safflower oil that is infused with a clove of garlic and sprig of rosemary.

Add 1/4 cup – 1 cup (build up gradually) of freshly ground flax seed with 1 tbsp. of Kelp.

I also like to add a tbsp of Bragg’s ORGANIC vinegar (with the “Mother”) and a handful of tropical trail mix with various dried fruits, nuts and seeds.

Just the addition of this horsey salad a couple times a week will not only keep your horse interested in his feed but add beneficial nutrients that will help grow strong hooves, shiny coat and bright eyes.
