When we wish to connect with our horses we need to center ourselves so nothing comes between us physically or emotionally. Zen meditation is a great way to learn to not only center yourself but to calm those pesky thoughts that keep interrupting our ride and our emotional equilibrium.
I’ve posted a link here to the “How To” instructions for Zen Meditation. Print it out, practice it first in your home before going out to interact with your horse then practice on the back of your horse, preferably bareback. While we cannot slow out breathing down to the equine rate we can become conscious of not only our own breath but the synchronization between our breaths and the horses breath. That exercise, right there, will help us to unionize with our horse for complete connection.
