Who’re you listening to today?

Do this, do that, no – don’t do that! Do this!

How many times during our horsemanship lessons (with or without a human coach *grin*) do we hear these words or they run through our heads?

“Should I do this?” or “Should I do that?”

Wow, with all the shoulds, shouldn’ts, might be’s, might not be’s, could be’s, couldn’t be’s … running through our heads how the heck do we hear —

THE HORSE !?

That’s what horsemanship, GOOD horsemanship, is all about … its about hearing, listening and FEELING the horse. What is the HORSE saying to you?

Never mind the replay of so and so’s instructions in your head. If the horse is saying something different then who’re ya gonna listen to?

Do you have a coach to tell you about how to listen to your kids? Your hubby? Your friends? Do you have a training outline for any of them?

Is that what you do? TRAIN your kids, your hubby, your friends?

Or, do you strive to get to know the people in your life – what pleases them, what offends them, how you can better enrich your relationship with them?

Is your horse an ‘object’ that comes with a training manual?

Or is he your friend, your confidant, your teacher?

People mean well. Even myself — I’ll give suggestions as to this or that or the other thing when working and playing with horses.

But I always ask — what is the HORSE saying?

Listen — listen carefully to the horse, to your gut, and then compare to the voices in your head.
