QUESTION:
My horse keeps on getting abscesses. Is there something that I can do to help resolve this?
ANSWER:
Well, the first objective would be to see that the hooves are in good, natural condition. This involves not only hoof form and function but also diet, environment and emotional well-being. (yep — emotionally well-being plays an important part in hoof health as the hooves cannot be ‘separated’ from the rest of the horse. Stress lands in the hooves – physical OR emotional stress.)
I like to use Homeopathy as I’ve found better results with that than with traditional meds that serve only to suppress symptoms. Symptoms are merely the visual signs that the body is trying to rid itself of foreign ‘invaders’, so to speak .. bacteria, fungus, sepsis, biotics, etc. etc. Stuff that just does not belong in the body and which the immune system is geared/hard-wired to get rid of.
Homeopathy treats the individual; not the ‘disease’. So, there are several remedies that will address abscesses but only one that will ‘fit’ your particular horse.
The following article by Dr. Ami is good and lists the remedies and their indications.
